What we did: We started out our activity by talking about our value for the month - Choice and Accountability. Anyone who had the value color somewhere on them got an orange starburst candy. Some of the girls are actually remembering that I do this and are purposefully wearing the right colors! Also, any girl who had brought her Personal Progress journal got a piece of orange gum.
We then talked more about choice and accountability as a follow up from Sunday's lesson and the role the Holy Ghost can play in helping us make good decisions.
The tables were set up with blank BINGO sheets and pens for each girl and we started out by playing group TABOO with cards I had made. I used all YW words and got the idea from here. As the girls solved each card, they chose where to write the keyword in their BINGO card. I teased them that this was the Choice portion of the game and while they did get to choose where they put each word, the consequence of whether or not they would have a winning BINGO card would be based on all the choices they made :-) We had a couple more words than squares to accommodate girls who dazed away for a word or anything like that.
Once everyone's cards were filled we then switched over to the Accountability portion of the game. I told the girls to make small marks as we went along so we could play multiple rounds. It probably would have also been fun to have handed out orange tokens, new pennies, or orange candies for them to use to cover each spot, but that is in hindsight now!
Once a BINGO was called out the winner received a fun orange pencil (sparkly kinds, not just boring #2's!) and we would continue with the same boards until we had three winners. After three winners we would start a new round and go till three more winners. We were able to do a total of three rounds.
After the game I read them the Parable of the Popcorn, we had closing prayer, I encouraged them to walk around the room and read the quotes I had put up around the room about choices, and then they got to eat the refreshments. We had CRUSH flavored twizzlers - CRUSH standing for "Choose Righteously Understanding Sacred Honors", Now and Laters - with a sign reminding them that the decisions they make NOW will affect them LATER, so they should CHEWS wisely, and then popcorn to follow the parable I read. The girls all thought they were cheesy and cute and I didn't come home with left overs, so I guess it was a hit.
